This blog post is from a shared topic from Blog Azeroth created by Dangfool.
It’s not often I get to do these shared topics any more for PVE Rogues, mainly because the topics are so hard to adapt into a technical rogue related blog post. This shared topic however; “What is Your Favourite Weapon?” I have decided to complete by comparing some of the rogue weapons available in current raid content and which ones are bound to make your mouth water and your DPS go through the roof.
Let’s face it, I don’t care what the weapon looks like so long as it renders my foes into two gooey pieces.
Daggers
If I had to choose one type of weapon to be the rogue’s ultimate favourite weapon it would probably be Daggers.
Mutilate rogues don’t have much choice when it comes to weaponry, you can have either that nice shiny looking dagger over there, is this one that’s just the same except slightly faster. Subtlety rogues will also need a good dagger main hand and usually a dagger off hand too although not always necessary. Even combat rogues however, love a good dagger in their off hand now. That means in my book, Daggers have to be the most loved rogue weapon in all of the World of Warcraft right now.
So let’s take a look at the speed 1.8 daggers available right now in Cataclysm patch 4.0.6 for Main Hand dagger users (Mutilate and Subtlety):
Note: Grey rows are weaponry that is much harder to get i.e. require high arena rating or heroic mode raids.
| Dagger | Weapon Type | DPS |
EP of Stats* |
| Bloodthirsty Gladiator’s Shanker | PVP Epic 1.8 Dagger ilvl 353 | 437.2 | 441.6 or 579.6 |
| Vicious Gladiator’s Shanker | PVP Epic 1.8 Dagger ilvl 359 | 462.3 | 466.9 or 612.9 |
| Organic Lifeform Inverter | Raid Drop Epic 1.8 Dagger ilvl 359 | 462.3 | 612.4 or 724.45 |
| Vicious Gladiator’s Shanker | PVP Epic 1.8 Dagger ilvl 372 | 521.8 | 528 or 693 |
| HC Organic Lifeform Inverter | HC Raid Drop Epic 1.8 Dagger ilvl 372 | 521.8 | 693 or 819.5 |
*EP Values based on Mutilate or Subtlety respectively and does not include weapon DPS EP.
Next up are the fast 1.4 speed daggers which all rogue talent builds enjoy in the off hand slot:
| Dagger | Weapon Type | DPS | EP of Stats** |
| Bloodthirsty Gladiator’s Shiv | PVP Epic 1.4 Dagger ilvl 353 | 437.2 | 441.6, 579.6 or 473.8 |
| Vicious Gladiator’s Shiv | PVP Epic 1.4 Dagger ilvl 359 | 462.3 | 466.9, 632.3 or 481.5 |
| Uhn’agh Fash, The Darkest Betrayal | Raid Drop Epic 1.4 Dagger ilvl 359 | 462.3 | 583.3, 763.25 or 627 |
| Scaleslicer | BoE Epic 1.4 Dagger ilcl 359 | 462.3 | 622.1, 739 or 690.05 |
| Vicious Gladioator’s Shiv | PVP Epic 1.4 Dagger ilvl 372 | 521.8 | 528, 715 or 544.5 |
| HC Uhn’agh Fash, The Darkest Betrayal | HC Raid Drop Epic 1.4 Dagger ilvl 372 | 521.8 | 660, 863.5 or 709.5 |
**EP Values based on Mutilate, Subtlety or Combat respectively and does not include weapon DPS EP.
Obviously as you can see, the Heroic Uhn’agh Fash, The Darkest Betrayal is going to be THE weapon of choice for all rogues regardless of your build. However for something much more accessible Subtlety rogues will want Uhn’agh Fash, The Darkest Betrayal for the off hand slot but astonishingly enough the Scaleslicer is optimal for Mutilate and Combat rogues! Get your boxing gloves on because this is one bad ass dagger and it is available from simply doing Bastion of Twilight Trash runs in a PuG or buying it from the Auction House.
For subtlety rogues the Uhn’agh Fash dagger drops from Cho-Gal in the Bastion of Twilight so it’s not entirely too far out of reach and most rogues will be settling for the normal version Uhn’agh Fash, The Darkest Betrayal.

Hey there Garona, love the site! (had to say it as its my first post).
I believe there are some minor mistakes in the article. The Bloodthirsty daggers you put down I do believe do not excist at all.
The 521 arena daggers are not out yet due to them beeing more powerfull in pve then the 359 pve daggers.
There is another OH I think would be cool to get up there. The Scaleslicer, I believe it drops from trash mobs in BWD.
Further more I have been wondering about the speed of the off-hand weapons for quite some time now and was hoping you would have a smart and understandable anwser for me, as you seem to have that very often.
(mutilate)
How important is it that the oh is 1.4?
Lets say for example I have the 359 vicious shiv (1.4 speed) and the 359 Organic Lifeform Inverter (1.8 speed) to choose for my offhand, what would be the way to go? (both main hands would alse be OLI).
Many thanks in advance for the nice site and very usefull information!

No bloodthirsty daggers eh? Damn you wowhead
The vicious higher level daggers though i think weren’t they removed to prevent early access to them but were due to be re-inserted on january 25th for 2200 arena rating?
Ill have a look at the scaleslicer momentarily when i get a min and amend the table to exclude bloodthirsty.
In terms of vicious shiv versus organic liform inverter:
They are both the same DPS and the organic lifeform inverter has better stats on it, so usually you would think yay more statage! But yes, the speed of the weapon could seriously affect whether or not its an upgrade in your offhand slot.
Mutilate requires fast off hand weapons in order to stack DP quickly for one. We already know mutilate needs a slow 1.8 MH for extra muti damage so its better if our OH is fast to pop DP onto. Otherwise you may find your DP just doesn’t stack up so nicely, you might have to wait for your first envenom and your DPS will drop because of a lack of IP procs brought on by a 5 stack DP.
Typically mutilate rogues will choose a slow Main hand over anything else for the extra mutilate damage because the one thing that’s important is that the weapon with the highest damage goes in the main hand. It’s then just a happy circumstance, you want a fast wep for DP so whats left over after having put your slow high damage wep in your mh? pop you fast DP proccing wep in your oh
So to work out which is better you need to think whether or not the extra damage from having a nice fast DP proccing rate is better than the stats bonus you get from the slow wep.
My guess is: dp procs FTW considering these two daggers are the same dps its just a mater of stats versus dp procs and not stats+dps versus dp procs.
However, weapon trade off like this can be very tricky and I would suggest the only real way to find out which is better is to use a spreadsheet :s
Personally, for my rogue, the sheet at least says shiv wins with +400 dps over the lifeform inverter. It could be different for your rogue but id expect a similar conclusion.
I hope that made sense, i tend to warble :s
That is correct about the 2200 daggers. They were removed due to the fact I mentioned before. Then they were ment to be out 25th but the date got postponed twice I believe, and they are still not out =(
And about the 1.8 OH, I understand the theory I just havent done the math xD (I try to avoid it as much as possible
)
But yes, I had the impression that the fast one was going to be doing more. Altough it will of course always depend on the fight that is beeing done and other smaller factors. I think I will try it out using 1.8 OH and throwing some fast shivs in there to stack the dp up fast and see what happens.
And yes, it did make sence!
(after a few reads)
Thanks again Garona! Much love from
Meltazor
Yes that’s a good idea, putting into practice is usually a great way of seeing what works for you and your rogue
nothin to it but ta do it
First of all…*insert triple take and after re-re-reading, your point was understood. I have several questions tied in with this, however they will be posted in the forum. Till I can get the forum post drafted what is your first responce the following:
Combat daggers
Shiv
What place on the list do Scaleslicer (blackwing descent trash drop) have?
Daggers, daggers, and more daggers.
My rogue has used daggers exclusively since Vanilla, and he will more than likely ALWAYS use them exclusively. When I think of a rogue/thief class, regardless of game, I’ve always thought of those stealthy, dagger-wielding, assassin types.
Furthermore, assassination & subtlety lend themselves to the playstyle that I personally enjoy the most. Coincidently, these trees benefit most from daggers.

You are missing the Scaleslicer, why?
As per above: I first of all forget about it and now I have been lazy
But update to this post coming up. Also leaving the 2200 arean weapons in there as during this time they have now aparantly been launched. Either that or twitter lies to me
Updated.
