Patch 4.3 Best DPS Professions for a Rogue

This information is highly likely to be applicable for feral DPS druids as well who also value Agility as their prime stat.Feral Druid Friendly Information

As some of you may be aware Epic Gems have now been released and this means BIG changes in the professions world. Many of you rogues out there will be sporting the Jewelcrafting profession just like me due to the added 81 Agility the profession used to provide. However, now that epic gems are available and we are working on replacing all blue quality gems with purple quality ones this profession no longer gives us the amazing DPS boost it used to.

Jewelcrafting Changes

So why has jewelcrafting changed since epic gems were released? The Jewelcrafting stat bonus works by allowing players to add three epic special epic gems known as Chimera’s Eye to our gear which hold superior stats to any other gems. For rogues and feral cats these epic gems are known as [Delicate Chimera's Eye] and provide +67 Agility. This used to mean that when compared to the blue quality gems other players would have placed in these slots you would gain +81 Agility extra with these gems. This placed Jewelcrafting above all other professions for DPS bonuses.

Old Bonus:
3 x 67 Agility JC gem – 3 x 40 Agility Rare Gem
= 201 Agility – 120 Agility

= 81 Agility Gain.

Now we will or are already using the new Epic Quality gems known as [Delicate Queen's Garnet] which provide +50 Agility each. This means we get less of an extra benefit for using Jewelcrafting than other professions and now only receive +51 Agility making Jewelcrafting the worst profession in 4.3.

New JC Bonus:
3 x 67 Agility – 3 x 50 Agility
= 201 Agility – 150

=51 Agility Gain

This means our JC rogues have gone from having the best profession in the game for DPS to the worst profession in one fell swoop.

The next patch fixes have been announced and so far no news on boosting JC gems. So if you are already epic gemmed or working on this now it is strongly recommended you consider changing your JC profession.

Blacksmithing

Because blacksmithing stat bonuses also rely on gemming this profession has also changed since teh release of epic gems but instead of suffering this profession has been significantly boosted. Blacksmithing used to sit pretty at +80 Agility due to the two extra gem sockets it provides players. However, now that you can obtain +50 gems instead to go in those two extra sockets Blacksmithing now gives 2 x 50 Agility to players with this profession which is a whopping 100 Agility in total. This makes Blacksmithing the best profession  in the game right now and those dropping Jewelcrafting may wish to consider Blacksmithing as the alternative as it provide 20 Agility MORE than any other profession.

Best Primary Profession:

1. Blacksmithing (+100 Agility on extra sockets).

Your second choice of profession can be any of the following which all provide 80 Agility or roughly the equivalent/average of 80 Agility:

2. Leatherworking (+80 Agility on wrists)

3. Engineering (+80 Agility Average proc uptime on gloves)

4. Alchemy (+80 Agility on flasks)

5. Enchanting (+80 Agility on rings)

6. Inscription (+80 Agility on shoulders)

The two worst professions a rogue should now never have are:

7. Tailoring (AP proc which is roughly 71-73 Agility on cloak)

8. Jewelcrafting (51 Agility on gems)

Finally the gathering professions are ranked as the lowest possible for DPS gains and should never be considered if you wish to maximise your DPS in a PVE environment.

How are you coming up with alchemy giving +80 Agi? The flask of enhancement? FOE doesn’t stack with flask of the winds, so it would be an Agi loss. Alchemey seems to only be a quality of life profession, longer flasks, and not a dps benefit unless i’m totally missing something. The trinks are good early in an expansion but only early on.

No, alchemists have a passive bonus called mixology. Mixology not only increases the duration of flasks for the alchemist but also increases thier effectiveness. In cataclysm that therefore means any flask imbibed by the alchemist provides 380 of it’s stat and not 300 as it would with everyone else. This means an extra +80 agility for alchmists providing they flask up.

Enchanting is actually the best 1 (or atleast above leatherworking). Think 40 agility on each ring + +50 agility enchant on wrists = 40 + 40 + 50 = 130 agility. So the list should be more like this:
    1) Blacksmithing
    2) Enchanting
    3) Inscription (130 agility)
    4) Alchemy
    5) Engineering
    6) Leatherworking
    7) Tailoring
    8) Jewelcrafting

Well enchanting doe snot actually provide the 50 agility different to any other. Everyone benefits from the +50 agility enchant so it is not exclusive to enchanting im afraid and therefore cannot be counted as a bonus.

inscription as well does not provide 130 agility more than any other profession im afraid ;) Just 80 like all the other professions.

there is a more detailed breakdown of each profession bonuses here if you want to have a look:

      http://www.pverogues.com/cataclysm/max-dps-professions-in-4-0-6/

its an old post so the order is as the post above is, but the details about bonuses are the same barring JC related items.
